FFWD: Gougères

Now you see them. Now you don't.

Gougères.

The very first recipe for the new baking group French Fridays with Dorie.

Dorie Greenspan's latest book, Around My French Table, was published only a few weeks ago. It's filled with wonderfully delicious recipes for everyday French cuisine.

The kick-off recipe features
gougères, yummy cheesy bites of choux pastry. The batch you see below disappeared about as quickly as you can say "gougères." They are that good.

They are also very easy to make. The dough itself can be prepared in advance and frozen, making the
gougères a perfect starter for any party or get-together.

These came out just right, delicious either warm or cool. With the hollow interior, I kept thinking about potential stuffings to dress them up. But, honestly, with the
gruyère cheese, they can stand by themselves without any additions.

I'm not sure how many years it will take us to bake through this book, but we're sure to have fun along the way and to enjoy many tasty recipes. Stop by the FFWD site to see what it's all about.

With these guys, you can't stop eating with only one.

These look scrumptious, as light as a feather! I'm looking forward to baking selections from Dorie's new book.

Yum! These look so good, and are one of my favourite things. I can't believe I am missing the first FFwD, but tomorrow is moving day and I'm not packed! Hope it's cooled off a bit for you.

You are so right with the "now you see them, now you don't" comment! I only baked a dozen and froze the rest for that very reason! Lovely job!

They were easy, weren't they? Yours look great! They disappeared very quickly at my houses too. :)

You are so right! I found the safest thing to do is to bake fewer of them because no matter how many I make, they get eaten pronto You're look absolutely perfect!

I figured out that it's roughly 6 years of recipes, if we make them all (I can see not making the pastry for the pie on a separate day, for instance).

Yikes...6 yrs? Ok - I'm in. These look wonderful - and I'm in the frozen camp too! They bake up so nicely even after being in the freezer. Nicely done!
