This month's cake from Dorie's Anytime Cakes by Dorie Greenspan is a bit different -- it's a savory cake.
It's almost like a 'kitchen sink' cake, since it contains three types of cheese (fontina, mozzarella Parmesan), pancetta, ham, or bacon, chives or scallions, roasted peppers, and honey. Aside from a lot of chopping, the batter is easy to put together, and it bakes in a loaf pan.
While it's an interesting cake, flavor-wise, it didn't thrill me. I put most of the slices in the freezer to revisit at a later date. Maybe toasting them will help; maybe the flavors will be better melded.
There were mixed reviews from the bakers as well, so be sure to check them out at the Tuesdays with Dorie website.

oh man--looks like the perfect loaf. I hope they emerge from their freezer slumber a bit improved.
It is so interesting…I feel like you and I were the only ones with this “ok” reaction hahaha. Everyone else seemed to love it. I had four other people try it and everyone said the same thing. Mine looked fine and very similar to yours so I am not sure what happened haha. Just not our thing I guess 🤷♀️😂😂 (Kim)
Maybe you can share the extras at book club etc. Kim had the same experience. I loved it toasted the next day.
Sorry you didn't like this. Toasting it definitely gives some more depth of flavour. I also have some stashed in the freezer!
Sorry you didn’t enjoy this cake - onwards! I did enjoy it despite not normally liking savoury cakes.
Wow, for someone who didn't much care for this ham and cheese loaf, you certainly have a stunning photo of it all...I could easily raid that freezer and come away with it. Since there are just two of us here to eat a whole loaf, I did find a variety of uses for it, as I really dislike throwing things away that I worked so hard on, so Mark was happy with the variety of things we did with it and he would like to see it reappear (which is why I would love to raid that freezer of yours). Beautiful photos.
