Once again, I was asked to make a dessert for my monthly quilt group. I thought it was the perfect opportunity to bake the Double-Pear Picnic Pie, with a few changes.
I had been planning on making just a half a recipe for myself, so I didn't change that plan for my group. (There are only five of us, so that gave me one extra piece for the photo op.)
Since I only had two pears, I added one apple to the mix which was the perfect amount. I already had a package of dried apples (no dried pears to be found), so I soaked them in boiling water to soften them before finely chopping them and adding them to the pear-apple filling along with some fresh lemon zest and apricot preserves. I did give the sour cream pie crust a try, and was pleased with the result.
The pie turned out well. I had actually made it a few days before and stuck it in the freezer so I could bake it fresh the morning of the meeting. Everyone enjoyed it, so I will definitely make it again!

Your pie looks very fancy with the way you made the steam holes. I also only made a half recipe using two pears. I had to really stretch the dough and filling to make them fit my pan, but it worked! This was a delicious pie.
ReplyDeletePerfection! Your quilt group is very lucky.
